I am having heretical thoughts. I have been standing in the darkroom all day, working on the Jerusalem photos. That city had a profound effect on me, and the work that resulted is some of the strongest that I’ve made in a couple of years. My heresy is about the printing. The light was harsh, and I feel compelled to print it contrasty. This is a hard way to go. It means much dodging of shadows to maintain any detail, and careful exposure control. I find myself thinking, my, the tonal control would be so much easier to manage digitally.
I think, after this printing session is done (in another day or two), I’ll scan some of these negatives. And see if I can achieve something comparable via the Epson.
