Two competitions to let you know about.
The Photographic Center Northwest Members’ Juried Exhibition deadline is October 20th. Scott Wallin from the Whatcom Museum of History and Art is the jurer. The prospectus reads, "Wallin is interested in reviewing fine art photographs, especially work that would challenge an increasingly sophisticated audience." The word "challenging" is repeated several more times in the paragraph. Let that be your guide.
The Prix de la Photographie Paris competion is open now through December 15. The list of categories looks like it was lifted whole from the IPA Awards contest, so consider that your model. With a multi-disciplinary contest like this, it’s useful to pick an obscure category (not landscapes) so that you can increase your odds. You can enter this one wholly online, which is a feature I find compellingly convenient.
Most competitions, with rare exception, appear to accept submissions on CD or online now. It is a relief to be beyond the era of copy slides. I find it useful to keep a folder of "Contest Entry" images ready to convert to the requested jpg size, so that it isn’t too onerous to compile a body of work and enter. I can bang one of these out now in under an hour.
