Description: Henry Wessel, on artistic process, once said, “Part of it has to do with the discipline of being actively receptive. At the core of this receptivity is a process that might be called soft eyes. It is a physical sensation. You are not looking for something. You are open, receptive. At some point you are in front of something you cannot ignore." In this workshop, you will learn to come to that open state “zone” voluntarily and quickly.
We will teach you to be alert to those physical sensations, and to respond to the world from a deep and fast place We will talk about process and neurobiology, and use exercises to deepen your awareness of your own particular cues. We want you to get deeply familiar with that arrangement of reality in the viewfinder that “you cannot ignore”.
Bring a camera (and a laptop if you shoot digital.) We may be looking at our work at the end of the day, depending how the workshop unfolds.
Leader bios: Doug Plummer has been a fine art and professional photographer for most of his adult life, and then some. Robin Shapiro is a noted psychotherapist and consultant who has worked with many artists on performance enhancement and creativity. She is the editor of EMDR Solutions: Pathways to Healing, a book of clinical applications of EMDR techniques for therapists. This workshop will be a template for a chapter in her next book.
