Here it is, my PF Workshop project, after a re-edit, sound mixing and color grading.
During the shoot, all the lessons from the first Platypus workshop came back: the five angles on any single action, the primacy of story, and stay on tripod (the one rule I break, again and again, and I often regret it). I've walked back my rant against filmmaking techniques like dollys, as I really like what it does. Is there a crane in my future? With this piece I tweaked the sound more than I ever did before, and I made a stab at color grading. Given that I'm often shooting in dim, mixed light environments, I've made the job extra hard for myself, and I'm sure it could look better.
I wanted this piece to be a template for a series of videos I'll be doing for Northwest Folklife this winter, on the various and diverse communities that they highlight. That and about three other projects will keep me busy through the end of the year.
The band's name in the credits is "Spart Parts". Not Spare Parts?
